Diablo IV features a top-notch spine-chilling storyline that is as haunting as it is captivating. Much of the plot has been delivered via a number of trailers revealed by Blizzard Entertainment. Revolving around the war between darkness and light, the game’s story directly succeeds Diablo III and takes place several decades later.

As per the Official Cinematic Trailer: By Three They Come, Lilith has been summoned into the Sanctuary via a dark ritual. What started as a small party of treasure hunters to seek a gigantic reward turns into a foreboding turn of events which results in the ultimate evil being accidentally resurrected. As such, the return of Lilith marks a new era of darkness and misery in which players will find themselves in Diablo IV.

Moreover, as per the In-Game Intro Cinematic Trailer, we see a player character wandering on a horseback across a snowy frozen mountain woodland. By nighttime, the player character comes across a dark distorted statue emanating horror vibes. So much so that the horse panics and decides to flee only to be killed in the cold void of the woodland. Stuck, the player character starts to seek shelter and manages to reach the mouth of a cave just in time. Tired of the journey, the player character sleeps away instantly and dreams of a lone wolf infected with the raw power of darkness. Its gruesome face signals terrible omens that will be faced by the player once the game launches. Does it have anything to do with the return of Lilith?

Lastly, in the Official Release Date Trailer, we see a full-scale war between Demons and Angels. The Angelic army is headed by a rogue angel Inarius in what is a crusader expedition into Hell. Even before the battle starts, the vibes make it clear how much of a terrifying force Angels can become that stands up to par with their Demonic counterparts! In one instance, we see Inarius hurling a massive black spear at Lilith before the screen turns to black…

Diablo IV Gameplay

In the Official Gameplay Trailer, the developers have set a great tone for Diablo IV. Here, we see three of the five playable classes fighting on a battlefield as well as traversing across the game’s vast open world on a horseback. Moreover, we also saw a glimpse of coop gameplay as well. In addition, though implicitly, we also get to see the tremendously overhauled gameplay visuals that are a big improvement over the predecessor: Diablo III.

Although Diablo IV does not betray its core mechanics and isometric ARPG roots, it does feature many “firsts” for the franchise. There is nothing to worry about though. The much-beloved hack-and-slash gameplay is here and so is the dungeon-crawling aspect. Moreover, the loot and gear grind has been ramped up as the hordes of enemies are ever more dangerous now.

Open World

Unlike previous entries in the iconic series, Diablo IV features a non-linear gameplay mechanic. Players will have the freedom in exploring the vast open world, which is also a first for the series, to their heart’s content. The open world is divided into 5 regions: the frozen Fractured Peaks, the woodland Scosglen, the harsh Dry Steppes, the scorching Kehjistan, and the murky Hawezar. Moreover, there will also be a Hell zone available in the game.

Diablo IV features a 35-hour-long experience and will not just only focus on the lore surrounding epic heroes and horrendous villains. There will be a good emphasis on the stories of simple folk and their villages as well. Along with main quests, players will also find world events happening nearby them.

Sorceress wields powerful magic and can devastate their enemies from afar. Rogues are known for their high agility which enables them to take down their opponent in the blink of an eye, both from long-range and close quarters. Lastly, Necromancers are wielders of blood, shadow, and bone magic powers and can break hell loose on their enemies.

Moreover, the character progression has seen a big overhaul and there have been significant improvements as well as changes in the existing system. The skill tree in Diablo IV is so vast that, according to Blizzard Entertainment, players would only have unlocked about 30-40% of the total skills available by the time they reach the endgame. This further adds an element of uniqueness to each gameplay character, even if they belong to the same class.

In addition, there is a Renown System, Altars of Lilith, Codex of Power, as well as a Paragon Board; all contributing to character progression in the game. In order to know more about what each progression mechanic is, click on their respective links.

Undoubtedly, one of Diablo IV’s outstanding features is its top-notch character customization. Now, thanks to the hundreds of unique armor pieces, facial aspects, and body characteristics, no two same class characters will look the same. According to Blizzard, “You will be able to change the face of your character, the hairstyle, the facial hair (beards and eyebrows), and add jewelry (nose piercing or earrings), makeup, and body markings such as tattoos or body paint. You will also be able to change the color values of your character’s skin, eyes, hair/facial hair, and body markings. Some elements will be class specific, to support the classes’ unique backgrounds, but many will be shared between classes allowing more possibilities to mix and match.”

Online Gameplay and PvP
