Developed by Avalanche Software, Hogwarts Legacy is a groundbreaking open-world action role-playing video game. Set in the wizarding world of the Harry Potter universe, the game takes place before the events of the novel series.

Released on February 10, 2023, Hogwarts Legacy is currently available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will launch this April. Moreover, the game will also drop on Nintendo Switch this July.

Game Plot

Set in 1899, players assume the role of a student who is starting in the fifth year at Hogwarts. Since the player character has joined late, the Ministry of Magic hands out a wizard field guide that helps in getting started quickly at Hogwarts.

In Hogwarts Legacy, players constantly find themselves discovering the enthralling world filled with magic, wonder, and endless possibilities. They will craft their own unique stories as they explore the campus, attend classes, and interact with students and teachers.

Under the constant guidance of Professor Eleazar Fig, players progress further in the game. Along the way, they will forge friendships with fellow students: Natsai Onai, Poppy Sweeting, and Sebastian Sallow. As such, they will accompany you on your risk-filled ventures as you confront Ranrok, the leader of the Goblin Rebellion, and Victor Rookwood, the leader of a group of Dark Wizards.

It soon comes to light that the player’s character is capable of controlling and manipulating an ancient magical power. Believing that you hold the key to an ancient secret, the Wizarding World now requires your help.

In the game, players will delve ever deeper into the magical realm of the castle as they uncover the reasons behind the awakening of the forgotten magic. As such, players will embark on a jaw-dropping adventure that puts at stake the very existence of the Wizarding World.

Gameplay

Whether you are a fan of the Harry Potter franchise or not, Hogwarts Legacy delivers a one-of-a-kind gameplay experience. As players set out on a thrilling adventure, they can now finally unleash their inner wizards!

Hogwarts Legacy is played from a third-person perspective as the game puts players in the shoes of a new student. Players customize their starting character in terms of appearance, house, gender, voice, body type, as well as additional accessories.

All four houses in Hogwarts Legacy have their own unique theme and abilities. These are Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw, and Slytherin. Choosing any of the houses significantly shapes a player’s gameplay style.

Moreover, in order to level up, players earn experience points by completing various challenges. These often come in the shape of combat, side quests, exploration, field guide pages, and the Room of Requirement.

Furthermore, in Hogwarts Legacy, players also mount on and interact with various fictional beasts and monsters. These include hippogriffs, thestrals, dragons, trolls, acromantulas, graphorns, as well as fwoopers.

Also, magical spells, potions, and combat are the core essence of Hogwarts Legacy gameplay. As such, throughout the game, players learn to cast various spells, brew potions, as well as master different combat abilities. Due to J.K. Rowling’s controversial views on the transgender community and the game’s story being rooted in potential antisemitic tropes, Hogwarts Legacy has been a subject of constant criticism from both communities. So much so, even a call to ban has been announced by the concerned groups.

However, despite the fierce backlash, Hogwarts Legacy managed to outperform even beyond expectations of everyone!

Right from the start, it is evidently clear that an immense amount of love has been poured into it. Hogwarts Legacy is an extraordinary experience for the fans of Harry Potter, packed full of magic, wonder, and charm.

If not for the controversial reviews prior to the release of the game, Hogwarts Legacy has amassed stellar reviews. With their genuine dedication and hard work, Avalanche Software has expertly captured the magic and vibe of Harry Potter.

When the game was made pre-available to players who pre-ordered it, Hogwarts Legacy achieved the 2nd highest peak of concurrent players in history for a paid single-player-only game. The number reached a whooping of 474,144 players! As such, it is now only behind Cyberpunk 2077.

Moreover, taking the advantage of its soaring popularity, SONY recently announced a very limited Hogwarts Legacy DualSense controller edition for the UK stores. As soon as it hit the shelves, it sold out like hotcakes. The sales have been so vigorously high that soon after the limited-edition console got run out of stock, the official webpage of the PlayStation Store also marked it as “unavailable”.

SONY might make it available again, but at the time of writing, there is no such news. Moreover, some buyers who were lucky enough to get their hands on the controller are now reselling as much as 4x of the Recommended Retail Price (RRP)! One eBay seller is currently re-selling it for $300 whereas the original costs about $85.
