As of today, we have come a long way since the release of the last Budokai Tenkaichi game. By now, every Budokai Tenkaichi fan would have given up any expectation left for the sequel.
However, during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 event, Bandai Namco Entertainment rekindled hope by announcing the next installment in the series. Shortly after, the official Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour Twitter page also posted a trailer video for the game.
Given how the previous games in the series had been a hit, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 promises to take things up to the next level! If you are a fan of the DBZ franchise and fighting games, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 should be the number 1 item on your priority list.
About Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4
Developed by Spike, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is an upcoming sequel to the popular Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3. Since it has just been released, there is not much information available. However, thanks to social media and the internet, we have gathered every chunk of information available regarding the game and that is all you need to know for now.
There is no official release date for now. The only thing Bandai Namco Entertainment confirmed during the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2023 event was that the game is currently under development.
Despite this, it has not stopped fans from speculating on the potential launch date. Here are the release dates of all the previous games in the series:
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi – October 2005 (JP), October 2005 (NA), November 2005 (EU)
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 – November 2006 (NA), February 2007 (JP), November 2007 (EU)
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 – October 2007 (JP), November 2007 (NA), February 2008 (EU)
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi Tag Team – September 2010 (JP), October 2010 (NA), November 2010 (EU)
- Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi – October 2011 (NA), December 2011 (JP), November 2011 (EU)
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi HD Collection – October 2012 (NA), October 2012 (EU), November 2012 (JP)
Now, by following the pattern, one can safely assume that the Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi is scheduled for a late 2023 release. As such, it would probably release somewhere between late September and early November.
However, at the time of writing, this potential release is about 6 months away. Therefore, it is unlikely that the game would release in such time. At the same time, we do not know how much progress has been already made in the development process.
What we can say for sure is that the game will definitely release in late 2023.
Just like with the release date, there is no official news relating to the consoles as well. And just like before, many have already guessed based on the below pattern:
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi – PlayStation 2
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 – PlayStation 2, Wii
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 3 – PlayStation 2, Wii
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi Tag Team – PlayStation Portable
- Dragon Ball Z: Ultimate Tenkaichi – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
- Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi HD Collection – PlayStation 3, Xbox 360
Since every game in the series has been released on the PlayStation platform, one can safely assume that Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will release on PlayStation 5 for sure. And if there is no console exclusivity present, there is a good chance that PlayStation 4 will also get the game. At the same time, we can also forecast that Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will release on Xbox consoles as well but it might be a little later. Also, until now, every indicator predicts that the game will not come to PC, unfortunately.
The gameplay of Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi will be similar to the previous entries in the series. Although there will be some changes present, these will only further hype up the gameplay experience like never before!
Since all the games share the core gameplay mechanic of fast-paced 3D battles with a large roster of playable characters, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi will be no different.
As such, it is a game that promises to deliver an authentic and immersive Dragon Ball Z experience for fans of all ages. We will be able to fight in modes like the story mode, arcade mode, versus mode, tournament mode, as well as an online mode for PvP battles.
Because the franchise is notorious for showcasing a very big cast of playable characters, we can expect well over 200 fighters present in the upcoming game. Budokai Tenkaichi 4 might also let players customize their characters with different skills, costumes, and accessories. The official trailer showed the following characters and hence we can deduce that these are definitely coming in the new game:
- Magin Buu
Moreover, since Dragon Ball games are some of the best eSport titles out there that feature tournament prizes running into the millions, Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 4 will definitely incorporate a multiplayer mode where you can battle online or locally with up to four players. In addition, players will also be able to compete in ranked matches as well as casual matches with friends.
As the Budokai Tenkaichi 4 is arriving in about well over a decade after the last main entry in the series, the game will feature tremendously improved graphics, enhanced animations, crispier sound effects, and advanced gameplay mechanics. We will also get to see features like a dynamic camera system, fusion system, transformation system, destructible environment, as well as a rage meter.
