In this article, we will talk about everything we know so far about the game.
Release Date and Platforms
Developed by Arcane Austin, Redfall is all set to release on May 2nd, 2023. The game was initially revealed in July 2021, but due to development challenges, it was delayed to the first half of 2023 in the summer of 2022.
Although originally planned for release on PlayStation 5, the game platform for Redfall was canceled after Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda Softworks, the parent company of Arcane Austin. Consequently, the game will only be available on PC and Xbox Series X|S.
Redfall Plot and Gameplay
Redfall is a thrilling first-person shooter and open-world game set in the once-quaint island town of Redfall, Massachusetts. The game’s plot is centered around a science experiment gone wrong, which was conducted by a biotech company named Aevum Laboratories. The resulting aftermath eventually turned them into vampires and they somehow managed to eclipse the sun.
Moreover, these are not your traditional bloodsucking vampires and hence present a wholly unique challenge to players. There are different types of vampires present and each higher-rank vampire is tougher to take down.
Redfall’s hauntingly captivating theme and setting are supported by state-of-the-art visuals. The player’s decisions will impact the ever-changing gameplay setting and the game can be played in both single-player and co-op modes.
In Redfall, players take control of one of the four playable characters; each with their own lore, background, and unique skills, and explore the game’s open-world environment, collect and customize new gear, as well as upgrade their hero’s abilities. Redfall is not necessarily a stealth game, and players can take on the horde of vampiric creatures and human cultists with tons of weapons for vampire hunting.
It is highly story-driven, with players picking up story missions from survivors in safe havens around town like restoring a lighthouse that vampires have knocked out. Also, apart from the main campaign, players will also be able to take on side quests like reclaiming breweries taken over by vampire cultists. Furthermore, as players explore, they will come across “psychic spaces” which are more or less like a vampire nest and need to be destroyed.
As such, in their quest to wipe out every vampire from the town of Redfall, players will eventually come toe to toe with regional vampire Underbosses. Slaying them gets you their skull, and collecting enough of those will open doorways to fights against the ultimate Vampire Gods themselves.
The Four Playable Characters
As for your squad, here is the list of the 4 playable characters:
- Remi De La Rosa
Remi De La Rosa is a brilliant robotics engineer and expert combat engineer, with a degree from MIT. She designed her robot Bribón for bot-assisted search and rescue missions while serving in the Coast Guard. Remi is one of the four playable characters in Redfall, and her main goal is to use her expertise to aid those trapped on the island. With Bribón by her side, she hopes to save Redfall’s survivors. Her dedication to protecting people is what drives her, and her passion for saving lives makes her an essential asset to the team.
- Layla Ellison
Layla Ellison was just a regular student studying Biomedical Engineering at Redfall Technical University until she took part in a medical study at Aevum Therapeutics, and ultimately ended up possessing telekinetic powers when something terrible happened at the facility. She can use her umbrella as a shield and call in her vampire ex-boyfriend, Jason, to help her fight. With her sharp wit and powerful abilities, Layla is ready to take on the vampires of Redfall. As the group’s mage, she can manipulate objects in the world around her, making her an invaluable member of the team.
- Devinder Crousley
Devinder Crousley is a self-taught inventor, online influencer, and cryptozoologist with a passion for uncovering the truth about mysterious creatures that many people believe do not exist. He ventured to Redfall to promote his latest book and document the strange occurrences on the island, only to find himself trapped there with his teammates. Despite his eccentricities, Devinder’s homemade inventions and weapon creations prove to be invaluable in the fight against the vampire gods. With his unique skill set and determination, Devinder is on a mission to uncover the truth about the vampiric invasion of Redfall.
- Jacob Boyer
Jacob Boyer is a former special forces sniper turned mercenary, who found himself in Redfall as part of a corporate contract with Bellwether Security. When the town falls to the vampiric “gods” ruling the island, Jacob is left with a vampiric eye and a spectral raven companion, courtesy of a nasty encounter. He’s a sharpshooter and a survivalist, who will stop at nothing to fight back against the vampire threat and protect his team. With his unique abilities, Jacob is an integral member of the group, using his expertise to take down enemies from afar.
