The legendary Star Wars saga continues with Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, the newest and most anticipated entry in the series. With the latest installment in the iconic franchise, prepare to embark on a thrilling adventure in a galaxy far, far away.
In this sequel to the critically acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, players will once again take on the role of Cal Kestis, a former Padawan who survived the infamous Order 66 that wiped out most of the Jedi Order. However, Cal is not the same guy you knew before He is darker, more serious, and even more desperate to survive and protect the galaxy from the evil Empire.
In Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, Cal will face new and deadly foes, discover new and exotic worlds, and unleash new and powerful abilities as he engages in a breathtaking and intense combat system that will push him to the limit of his skills with the Force and his lightsaber!
Release Date and Platforms
At the Game Awards 2022, Respawn Entertainment first teased the game with a reveal trailer and set the release date on March 17th, 2023. However, unfortunately, just six weeks before the launch date, the developers had to make a hard decision and delay the game by a little over a month’s time.
Taking to their official Twitter account, the developer posted an image that read: “For the last 3 years, the Jedi team here at Respawn has poured its collective heart and soul into Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, and we are proud to say the next chapter in the tale of Cal Kestis is content complete. We are now focused entirely on the final stage: bug fixes to enhance performance, stability, polish, and most importantly, the player experience.”
Consequently, the new release date was set for April 28th, 2023.
In the comments, despite the fact that this news broke the heart of many Star Wars fans, many players were sympathetic to the developer. They urged Respawn Entertainment to take all the time they need, perhaps wanting to avoid another game like Cyberpunk 2077.
As far as the platforms are considered, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is coming soon to PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Windows. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One will NOT get the game since Respawn wants to make the best use of the latest-gen console capabilities.
Speaking with PLAY Magazine via MP1st, “You’ll experience the benefit of the more powerful hardware throughout Survivor,” the director Stig Asmussen said. “Bottom line, we learned quickly that we could take advantage of the faster processors, larger/faster memory, better loading times, etc., to create much larger maps, with more detail, greater density, broader enemy/NPC variety, and overall fidelity. These features aligned perfectly with how we wanted to push the game. We didn’t want to break what we did in the first game because it was well received, but we wanted to evolve/enhance the experience. This new generation allowed us to do exactly that, and I believe it translates to a true new-gen experience in the Star Wars universe.”
About Star Wars Jedi: Survivor
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is a direct successor to 2019’s super-hit Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. It is an upcoming action-adventure video game played from a third perspective. The game is set in the Star Wars universe where the ongoing battle between the Empire and Jedi Knights continues. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor takes place exactly 5 years after the events of the prequel (which itself took place 5 years after the events of the 2005 Star Wars movie, Revenge of the Sith).
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor puts players in the shoes of a Jedi Knight, Cal Kestis, who previously survived the purge of Order 66. In the game, Cal is more mature and battle-hardened, facing newer graver threats from the Empire. Where the Empire has ramped up its game to decimate any remaining Jedi survivors, so has the Cal become ever more lethal and dangerous.
As per the trailers, Cal is now more dexterous in using his lightsabers to slice down his enemies. There are a couple of new combat features and abilities added in the much-anticipated sequel. Moreover, Cal can also use a new Force stasis ability to freeze enemies and blaster bolts in mid-air. However, no matter how dark the tone of Star War Jedi: Survivor is, Cal has his trusty friends by his side to aid him.
Because the game has not been released yet, there is not much out there on its gameplay content. How exactly the in-game events turn out to be in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor remains yet to be seen!
Jedi: Survivor Game Editions
At the time of writing, the Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is available to pre-order. There are 2 editions currently present: Standard and Deluxe. The Standard Edition costs $69.99 while the Deluxe Edition is priced at $89.99.
It should be noted that, whether you buy the Standard Edition or Deluxe Edition, there will be no change in the gameplay content. There are just some extra goodies present in the Deluxe Edition. While there is only one cosmetic pack included in the Standard Edition, the Deluxe Edition has two more!
